Aromatherapy
uses fragrant, pure essential oils extracted from a variety
of roots, flowers, leaves, bark, and resins to enhance the
body, mind, and spirit, promoting wellness by calming, relaxing,
rejuvenating, or energizing. The use of essential oils dates
to ancient civilizations; they can be inhaled, bathed in,
applied, or diffused to stimulate the olfactory-limbic connection.
Particularly useful in dealing with psychosomatic or stress-induced
complaints, aromatherapy can also affect physical and emotional
situations. Given the acuteness of their sense of smell, it
is little wonder that aromatherapy can be at least as effective
for animals as it is for humans.
